The City of Greenville provides weekly high-quality sanitation services to its residents, including garbage collection, recycling collection, yard waste collection, and bulky trash collection.

Trash Problem?

Service to single family homes is activated when someone inside the city limits signs up and activates an electric meter with Greenville Utilities. Single family homes automatically receive curbside service and must contact Public Works at 252.329.4522 or come by 1500 Beatty Street to purchase a City-approved container to be used for collection.

Household Garbage

Bags of household garbage must be placed in receptacles.  City-approved rollout containers must be pulled to the curbside by 6 a.m. on the service day and removed from the curbside to a location behind the front line of the house no later than daybreak of the day following scheduled collection. The metal bar on the City-approved rollout container must face the road. Also, there must be 3 feet of clearance between the City-approved rollout container and any other obstacle. The monthly refuse fee allows for one refuse container. A fee of $5.00 will be assessed for each additional rollout container. 

Recycling

You do not have to sort your recyclables; they can be co-mingled. Containers used for recyclables must be placed 3 feet from the garbage containers on the service day.

If you are recycling cardboard boxes, they must be broken down before they are placed into your recycling container. If they will not fit in your container, we ask that you place them on the ground beside the container and call 252.329.4522 to schedule a special pick-up.

Bulky Trash

Bulky trash pick up is available by appointment only.  This includes any items that will not fit inside of your garbage receptacle. Please call 252.329.4522 to schedule a bulky trash pick up. Please remember that the City does not pick up construction and demolition/building debris.     

Yard Waste

Yard waste should be separated (leaves, limbs, etc.) and at the curbside but not in the road. Limbs can be no longer than 5 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter. 

Service Fees

Curbside service uses a City-approved rollout container. The City has 64-gallon and 96-gallon containers that are available for purchase and will deliver them within the Greenville city limit. Please call 252.329.4522 for current container pricing.

Multi-family service is for residential complexes utilizing a dumpster. City crews will empty the dumpster on a weekly basis.
